Connecting with Nature this Solstice
Happy Winter Solstice!
Today, December 21st, marks the beginning of winter and the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Winter is a time of going within and reflecting on all that's been and all that's to come. Even with all the celebrations, parties, and festivities, there's a coziness to this time, a quietness that feels like a hot beverage on a cold night, with soft candlelight surrounding you. Carving some time out to sit in solitude and go within is an excellent way to honor your journey. For those of you who need a little extra help grounding, below is a small list of herbs to help you connect with nature, spirit, and yourself.
Herbs to cozy up with
As we embrace all that 2024 was and wasn't and look towards the coming year, remember to think of all the wonderful things that happened this year too. Too often we focus on only the negatives and forget the small moments of peace and happiness. Feeling gratitude for the present moment helps you to give thanks for all that's been and helps you to create more of it in the future. Whether you decide to meditate, journal, take a walk in nature, or just take a moment to breathe and reflect, here are some herbs to help you ground, connect, and warm you up. Cinnamon, Ginger, Reishi, Chamomile, Blessed Thistle, and Orange Peel are some herbs associated with winter, for their calming, warming, and immune boosting properties. Looking for ideas? Our Mocha tea blend or Cocoa with Mushrooms are wonderful to cuddle up with.
Herbs to lift the spirit
As much as this season is loved, there are those struggling through this time too. The loss of light, loss of a loved one, financial hardships, or past memories can make this a not so jolly time for some. Make a cup of herbal tea for yourself or to share with a friend you know is going through a hard time. Nothing needs to be fixed or said, sometimes your presence is all that's needed. Herbs to help the heart are Hawthorn, Rose, Tulsi, Skullcap, and Motherwort. Our Stress Less Tea may offer a moment of peace.
What to do this Solstice
This day is the shortest day of the year, spend as much time outside as you're able! Connect with nature, burn a Yule log, craft some natural ornaments, bake, light candles, journal, cleanse your home to welcome in the new year, or make gifts for loved ones. Whatever you do, give gratitude for all that's been and let go of what no longer serves you. Celebrate the coming light.
