For When You Feel Depleted, Overstimulated, Dried Out, Restless, or like You've Been Running on Empty for too Long

The Philosophy Behind Deep Yin

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yin represents the nourishing, cooling, moistening, and restorative aspect of the body.

Yang provides activity, warmth, movement, and transformation. Yin provides the substance and nourishment that allow those processes to happen without continually drawing down the body's reserves.

Yin* in not simply "calm," and Yin deficiency isn't simply being tired.

It's a traditional pattern associated with a lack of the body's nourishing and cooling resources. Depending on the individual pattern, this may be experienced as dryness, restlessness, feeling depleted after periods of exertion, or difficulty feeling deeply replenished.

Deep Yin was created for nourishment at a deeper level.

Rather than stimulating the body to produce more, this formula focuses on replenishing, moistening, and restoring.

Think of it as replenishing the water beneath the surface, not simply watering the leaves.

*A Note on Traditional Chinese Medicine

The terms used here (including Yin, Yang, Liver, Kidney, Heart, Qi, and other Chinese medicine concepts) refer to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and do not correspond directly to anatomical organs or biomedical diagnoses.

In TCM, these terms describe functional systems and relationships within the body rather than simply referring to the physical organs recognized by Western medicine.

The Herbal Formula

Lily Bulb (Bai He)

Lily bulb is a traditional Chinese botanical valued for nourishing Yin and moistening, with particular associations with the Lung and Heart systems. Its gentle, nourishing character makes it an especially beautiful foundation for a Yin formula.

Why it's here: Provides the signature nourishing and moistening quality of Deep Yin.

Prepared Rehmannia (Shu Di Huang)

Prepared rehmannia is one of the deeper nourishing herbs in Chinese medicine, traditionally used to enrich Blood and Yin and support the Liver and Kidney systems.

Why it's here: Provides the formula's deeper replenishing foundation and supports the body's restorative reserves.

Shatavari

Shatavari has a long history of use in Ayurvedic herbalism as a nourishing, cooling, and rejuvenating botanical. Its naturally rich and moistening character makes it a beautiful complement to the Yin focused Chinese herbs in this formula.

Why it's here: Adds a moistening and restorative Western/Ayurvedic perspective to the concept of Yin.

Marshmallow Root

Marshmallow root is rich in mucilage and has traditionally been used as a soothing demulcent for tissues throughout the body. Its moistening quality offers a tangible Western herbal expression of one aspect of the Yin concept.

Why it's here: Provides gentle moistening and soothing support.

Schisandra Berry (Wu Wei Zi)

Schisandra is traditionally associated with preserving and containing the body's vital substances. Its astringent nature helps balance the deeply nourishing herbs in this formula, giving Deep Yin a quality of restoration without simply adding more.

Why it's here: Helps preserve and contain what is being nourished.

Why Nourish Yin?

Modern life tends to favor Yang.

We move. We work. We exercise. We create. We solve problems. We stay connected. We keep going.

All that requires resources.

Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that activity must eventually be balanced with replenishment. Yin provides the nourishing and restorative foundation that allows Yang to function without continually consuming the body's reserves.

This is why Yin is not simply about relaxation.

Yin is what gives Yang something to work with.

Deep Yin is designed around that principle: not pushing, stimulating, or demanding more from the body, but creating a practice of replenishment.

Sometimes the most restorative thing we can do is stop asking for more and begin giving something back.

The Ritual

Deep Yin is an invitation to replenish.

Drink water. Eat something nourishing. Rest without needing to earn it. Let yourself move slowly when your body asks for stillness.

Not every season is meant for expansion. Some seasons are for gathering yourself back together.

Replenish. Moisten. Restore.

FAQ

What's the difference between Deep Yin and Gather Qi? Gather Qi builds and nourishes functional vitality. Deep Yin replenishes the nourishing, moistening, and cooling reserves that balance activity. In TCM, Qi and Yin are different but interconnected aspects of health.

What does "Yin" mean? Yin is one of the foundational concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It describes qualities associated with nourishment, cooling, moisture, substance, receptivity, and restoration.

Is Deep Yin a calming formula? Not specifically. Some of the herbs in Deep Yin have traditionally been used for soothing or restorative purposes, but the primary intention of the formula is Yin nourishment, rather than relaxation or nervous system support.

What's the difference between Deep Yin and Rooted Blood? Rooted Blood focuses on the traditional concept of nourishing and replenishing Blood. Deep Yin focuses on nourishing Yin, fluids, and deeper restorative reserves. There is some natural overlap because Blood and Yin nourish one another, but they represent different TCM concepts.

Can I take Deep Yin every day? Deep Yin is designed as a nourishing botanical formula and may be appropriate for regular use for many adults. Individual herbs may not be appropriate for everyone, however. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications, or managing a chronic condition, consult an appropriate healthcare professional before use.

Can children take Deep Yin? This formula was designed for adults. Children's formulas should be selected according to age, constitution, and individual needs rather than simply reducing an adult dosage.

How long does it take to notice a difference? Nourishing formulas are generally approached differently from fast acting herbs. Some people notice changes in their overall sense of well-being relatively quickly, while deeper replenishment is usually viewed as a gradual process.
