The Metal Element
"I need to let go and make some room."
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Metal is the element of breath, clarity, boundaries, discernment, and release.
Metal is traditionally associated with the Lungs and Large Intestine* systems. One receives what is pure and useful, while the other lets go of what is no longer needed.
It's also associated with autumn, when nature begins turning inward. Leaves fall. The air becomes crisp. What has completed its season is released.
Metal asks us to do the same.
What can you receive? What can you release? What no longer needs to be carried?
*A Note on Traditional Chinese Medicine
The Five Elements- Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water- are part of Traditional Chinese Medicine theory. They describe relationships and patterns within the body, mind, emotions, seasons, and natural world.
The terms used here (including Kidney, Liver, Spleen, Qi, Blood, and other Chinese medicine concepts) refer to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and do not correspond directly to anatomical organs or biomedical diagnoses.

Why Nourish Metal?
Breathing is an exchange.
We take in. We receive. We release.
Metal reminds us that holding on to everything is not the same as being strong.
There is wisdom in discernment, the ability to recognize what nourishes us, what doesn't, and when it's time to let something go.
This tea was created around that rhythm.
Mullein and plantain bring traditional Western herbal support for the respiratory system, while lemon balm and chrysanthemum add brightness and softness to the blend.
It's a tea for clearer space, within the body, the mind, and the seasons of life.
The Herbal Formula
Chrysanthemum Flower
Chrysanthemum is a classic Chinese herbal tea ingredient associated with clearing excess heat and supporting the Lungs. Its delicate flowers add a soft floral quality.
Why it's here: Brings clarity, lightness, and a traditional Chinese herbal connection to the formula.
Lemon Balm
Lemon balm brings a bright lemony aroma and gentle herbal character to the blend. Traditionally valued for digestive and nervous system support, it softens the more medicinal qualities of the leafy herbs.
Why it's here: Adds brightness and emotional softness to Metal's themes of release and letting go.
Plantain Leaf
Plantain leaf is a Western botanical valued for its soothing and protective qualities, particularly for irritated tissues.
Why it's here: Represents Metal's protective boundaries while adding gentle soothing support.
Mullein Leaf
Mullein has a long history of traditional use as a soothing respiratory botanical. Its soft, velvety leaves provide the foundation of this autumn inspired blend.
Why it's here: Represents the breath and supports the Lung centered nature of the Metal element.
The Metal Ritual
Metal belongs to autumn.
It's the season of release.
Go outside if you can. Notice the changing air. Listen to the wind moving through the trees.
As you drink your tea, think about something you've been carrying that no longer belongs to you.
A belief. An expectation. A habit, A story about who you are supposed to be.
You don't have to force yourself to let go. Simply acknowledge that you are allowed to put it down.
Take a slow breath in. Then breathe out completely.
Receiving and releasing are both necessary parts of the same breath.
Breathe deeply. Keep what nourishes you. Release what doesn't.
Safety & Considerations
Mullein leaf contains fine hairs that can irritate the throat if the tea isn't adequately strained. A fine mesh strainer is recommended.
