For When You Feel Depleted from Periods of Stress, Exertion, or Ongoing Demands and Need Nourishment and Replenishment

The Philosophy Behind Rooted Blood

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Blood is more than the fluid that circulates through the vessels.

Blood* is considered a nourishing substance that supports the organs, tissues, muscles, tendons, skin, and the Shen (the spirit housed within the Heart). Blood is also closely connected with rest, nourishment, emotional balance, and the body's ability to replenish itself.

When Blood is abundant, the body and the spirit are considered well nourished. When it becomes depleted, TCM patterns may include fatigue, weakness, dryness, feeling ungrounded, or difficulty settling and restoring.

Blood is built from nourishment, supported by Qi, stored and regulated through the body's deeper systems.

Rooted Blood was created to honor that process of replenishment.

Rather than stimulating the body to produce more energy, this formula takes a slower approach: nourish what has been depleted and give the body resources from which to rebuild.

*A Note of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The terms used here (including Blood, Liver, Kidney and other Chinese medicine concepts) refer to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and do not correspond directly to anatomical organs or biomedical diagnoses.

In TCM, the Liver and Kidney represent functional systems with relationships to nourishment, storage, growth, reproduction, vitality, and other physiological processes. They are not simply referring to the physical organs recognized by Western medicine.

The Herbal Formula

Dang Gui (Angelica Root)

Dang Gui is one of the classic Blood nourishing herbs in Chinese medicine. Traditionally, it nourishes and invigorates Blood while supporting healthy circulation and the relationship between Blood and Qi.

Why it's here: Provides the foundational TCM Blood nourishing action of the formula.

White Peony (Bai Shao)

White peony is used to nourish Blood and support the Liver. It's considered particularly valuable when nourishment and balance are needed rather than aggressive movement.

Why it's here: Deepens the Blood nourishing action while helping create a balanced, restorative formula.

Rehmannia (Shu Di Huang)

Prepared rehmannia is a deeply nourishing traditional Chinese herb associated with enriching Blood and Yin and supporting the Liver and Kidney systems.

Why it's here: Adds depth and replenishment to a formula intended for rebuilding rather than stimulation.

Goji Berry (Gou Qi Zi)

Goji berries are traditionally used to nourish Blood and Yin and support the Liver and Kidney systems. Their sweet, nourishing nature makes them a beautiful bridge between traditional Chinese medicine and Western herbal wellness.

Why it's here: Provides gentle nourishment while supporting deeper restorative reserves.

Nettle Leaf

Nettle is a mineral rich Western nutritive herb traditionally valued for nourishing the body and supporting overall nutritional wellness. Its nutrient density makes it particularly appropriate for a formula centered around replenishment.

Why it's here: Brings a Western nutritive perspective to the traditional concept of Blood nourishment.

Why Nourish Blood?

Modern wellness culture often focuses on what we can increase, stimulate, or accomplish.

Traditional Chinese Medicine asks a quieter question:

What needs to be nourished?

Blood represents one of the body's fundamental sources of nourishment in TCM. It supports the tissues, anchors the spirit, and provides the material from which the body can restore itself.

Rooted Blood is designed around this idea of replenishment rather than stimulation.

It's for the seasons of life when you have been giving more than you have been receiving. When nourishment, restoration, and rebuilding deserve more attention.

Think of it as tending the soil beneath the roots.

The Ritual

Rooted Blood is an invitation to slow down and receive.

Take your tincture slowly. Eat something nourishing. Rest when you need to. Give your body time to replenish what daily life asks it to spend. Not everything needs to be pushed forward.

Some things need to be nourished at the root.

Nourish. Replenish. Restore.

Safety & Considerations

Individuals with allergies to plants in the nettle, peony, or related botanical families should use with caution.

FAQ

Does Rooted Blood contain iron? Rooted Blood is not formulated as an iron supplement. Nettle and other botanicals provide nutritional constituents, but this formula should not be used to treat or correct iron deficiency.

What's the difference between Rooted Blood and a women's wellness formula? Rooted Blood focuses specifically on the tradtional concept of nourishing Blood. It's not formulated around menstruation, menopause, fertility, or hormonal balance.

This distinction belongs to the Foundations collection and addresses a fundemental TCM pattern rather than a sex-specific concern.

What does "Blood" mean in TCM? Blood is a specific concept within TCM theory. While it includes the physical substance of blood, it also describes a nourishing aspect of the body that supports the tissues, organs, sensory functions, and Shen.

It should not be interpreted as a direct equivalent of a Western medical diagnoses of anemia or low blood count.

How long does it take to notice a difference? Nourishing formulas are generally approached differently from fast acting herbs. Some people may notice changes in overall well-being relatively quickly, while deeper replenishment is traditionally viewed as a gradual process.

Can I take Rooted Blood every day? Rooted Blood is designed as a nourishing tonic and may be appropriate for regular use for many adults. However, herbs are biologically active, and individual circumstances matter. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications, or managing a chronic condition, consult an appropriate healthcare professional before use.

Can children take Rooted Blood? This formula was designed for adults. For children, herbal formulas should be selected and dosed according to age, constitution, and individual needs rather than simply reducing an adult dose.
